Three Mini Cakes

Why make a single big cake when you could spend triple the time making mini cakes??

Rhubarb // Rose // Pink Pepper

I have a new obsession. An obsession that has filled my Instagram and Pinterest feeds. That obsession is mini cakes. Not cupcakes. Mini cakes. What’s the difference, you may ask? The form, my dude, the formmmm.

Mini cakes are baked in mini cake molds. They are free-standing, not one whole tray like a cupcake tray, and, most importantly, have straight sides. They also aren't lined with paper. This is what makes them look like real cakes. Except, you know, mini.

Chocolate // Malt // Maraschino

The pans are from Fat Daddio’s, and I got them on American Amazon. Yes, it cost an arm and a leg with shipping, but I think it was worth it. These pans are great, and I love them (not sponsored!).

From the first time I saw mini cakes online, I knew I had to make them for my birthday party. Were they the most practical choice? Absolutely not. Not only are they much more work than a regular cake—so many molds to grease and fill, multiple rounds of baking, etc.—I also decided to do not just one flavor, but three. Because, of course, I did.

Earl Grey // Blueberry // Black Pepper

The flavors were as follows:

  • Rhubarb // Rose // Pink Peppercorn

  • Chocolate // Malt // Maraschino

  • Earl Grey // Blueberry // Black Pepper

I really love an alliterative flavor combo; it just makes it more fun, imo.
